What is Dim Mak Gong Fu?

Dim mak – To strike the vessel or Dian Xue: To strike the cavity – Acupuncture point
Gong Fu – “Hard Work” or “Effort in spare time”.

Thus Dim Mak Gong Fu is the focused study of and training in Acupuncture point and meridian striking. Further definitions below.

To define Dim Mak Acupuncture point striking, Dim Mak ( Dian Xue in Mandarin) :

“A traditional Chinese martial method of administering trauma or pressure to the Acupuncture points located along the energy pathways known as meridians. These meridians are comprised of, and directly influence, nerves, blood vessels and internal bioelectric energy known as Chi, which interacts with underlying musculoskeletal anatomy, the deeper viscera and internal organs with correct intention, energetics and force application to achieve a desired response from the Human organism.”

The term Acupuncture point itself is an inaccuracy of sorts. within the Chinese medical community at large, the idea of specialized “points” that have a special function and are universally located is somewhat non-existent with eminent practitioners for generations being unable to agree on function and location. This is coupled with modern imaging showing that while bio-electric energy does flow down Meridian paths and show up in electrical low resistances areas that do match up with point locations, points themselves are not physical structures, rather areas of interaction with the inner energetics and nervous system via the meeting points of nerves, skin structures such as pain & vibration receptors, immune function and blood vessels. In this text, I will use ‘Acu-point’ or Acupuncture point interchangeably to reference the target anatomy itself.

Acupuncture Points can be defined as;

‘Location at which multiple important anatomical structures usually meet, such as muscle insertion points, nerves, joints, skin sensors, blood vessels and immune system structures. These structures often meet in any number of combinations. These points of influence usually show a lower electrical resistance and have heightened sensitivity to touch, vibration and stretching sensations, allowing for efficient manipulation of a persons body and mind either in a martial or remedial sense.’

As we can see, Dim Mak is not limited to striking blood vessels, nerves or meridians, it also encompasses tearing of muscles and connective tissues, dislocation of joints, breaking of bones and striking the opponent with the earth by throwing them on it. It also encompasses the Taoist breathing methods, exercises and medical components of Traditional Chinese medicine.
